The Cabral/Truth Circle Film/Book Discussion on Africa and the African Diaspora |
"The time has come for us to start political movements in a historical context. It is not enough to motivate a people to protest. We must tell the history on which they build their revolt." --Bill Fletcher President, TransAfrica Forum TransAfrica Forum

The Cabral/Truth Circle is a combination of a great film festival and an exciting book club that focuses on the history and political movements of Africa and the African Diaspora. Every other month TransAfrica Forum will show a short documentary and host a discussion linking history and current affairs, and encouraging individual and collective activism.
The selection for March will be on the brutal history of the Congo. The presentation will be based on both a book and a film. The film will be shown during the program.

The Cabral/Truth Circle is named in honor of Amilcar Cabral and Sojourner Truth. Amilcar Cabral is one of Africa's most successful and thoughtful leaders. He led the anti-colonialism movement in Cabo-Verde and Guinea-Bissau. His political philosophy galvanized a country of farmers into an army that defeated the mighty colonial power of Portugal. His legacy stands with that of Nkrumah and Lumumba. As a slave who could not read, Sojourner Truth petitioned the government and won back her five year old son who had been sold illegally. She spent the rest of her days traveling throughout the country encouraging the debate to end slavery and create a peaceful society.
The venue is Busboys and Poets, one of the most exciting new establishments in the Washington area. Busboys and Poets is a restaurant, bookstore and gathering place for people who believe that social justice and peace are attainable goals. TransAfrica Forum and Busboys and Poets is a partnership that forges together more than a quarter a century of political activism with an enlightened bookstore and exquisite food.
Join the Cabral Truth Circle every other month. Knowledge is Power. Power will create Peace and Justice.
Admission is free. We encourage you to have dinner with us and change the world.
